Speaking of The Simpsons

In the aftermath of Pynchon’s appearance on The Simpsons, Robert Hinchcliffe forwards this link to speculations about the way Simpsons negotiations with different writers would go:

Many Simpsons fans were shocked to learn that Franzen, the renowned highbrow literary miserablist, had even considered guest starring on a popular cartoon series.

It later turned out that Franzen had initially refused to appear on the show, until Simpsons creator Matt Groening reminded the author that his book The Corrections “Had a load of talking turds in it, and it doesn’t get any more low brow that that.”
