• Last month I mentioned that Penguin U.K. sold some of its archived collectible books. Among them are “paperback copies of books by Isaac Asimov, DH Lawrence, Iris Murdoch, George Orwell, John Buchan and James Joyce, some of which include notes written by Penguin’s editorial staff,” and five thousand of them are now available for sale online at Abe Books.   • From CAAF’s post on writing instruction books (featuring those by Anne Lamott and John Gardner, with nice words for Tom Bissell): “So after Bird by Bird, I came to the conclusion that the ideal writing manual would consist of one word: ‘Practice,’ – just as, if they were truthful, diet articles in fashion magazines would consist of only four: ‘Eat less. Exercise more.'”
