Pirates, mermaids, and whirlpools! I’ll bet Peck’s some kid’s favorite uncle.

Another article about controversial literary critic and novelist Dale Peck appears in Newsday. This one offers some smart commentary from Ana Marie Cox about the role of the book reviewer and reveals that Peck has written a children’s book, The House That Got Stuck on the Island of the Past, due from Bloomsbury in September 2005. The book is described as:

a Sept. 11-inspired twist on “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.” Filled with time-traveling pirates and cranky mermaids and a whirlpool that sucks down all that is extinct and mythological so that it does not cause the Sea of Time to overflow, it’s a world that sounds as magical as Peck’s criticism is controversial.
