Perhaps not really the DNA of Literature, but close enough

My heart’s been all aflutter since I heard about The Paris Review‘s DNA of Literature project, which was supposed to launch in September and feature, among other things, “past author interviews with introductions by contemporary writers — such as Jonathan Lethem on Graham Greene.” The project finally launches later this week or early next.

Yesterday the magazine announced a giant online auction, featuring “personal contributions from literary giants like Hunter S. Thompson, Kurt Vonnegut, Peter Matthiessen, Jim Carroll and Jay McInerney.”

A signed poster handwritten by Kurt Vonnegut reads “EVOLUTION IS SO CREATIVE. THAT’S HOW COME WE GOT GIRAFFES AND THE CLAP” and is currently going for $275. (Via Moorish Girl.)
