In a brief piece for New York magazine, Chris Lehmann situates Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America, which appears October 10, among his other novels: “unlike other recent Roth works that fight their way through to some recovery of the promise of American life, this novel ends with a chapter called ‘Perpetual Fear.'” Houghton Mifflin provides an excerpt.
