National Poetry Month

Robert Pinsky and Slate are sweet and sour on National Poetry Month. Pinsky kicks off an ongoing poetry feature with poems about poetry, but says, “no chestnuts allowed.”

Meanwhile, Newsday joins the trend with an article on writing and booze but goes about it all wrong:

April is National Poetry Month, and it seems fitting that it also is National Alcohol Awareness Month, with a focus on underage drinking….

We say we are in favor of poetry, but how many of us can quote more than a few lines? We say we are against teenage drinking, but we look the other way.
