Franklin at Artblog and Kevin at Hidden City remind me that the Miami Book Fair was held last week. I long to go every year, but haven’t made it since the early 90’s, when I still lived in Florida. These days I can’t even manage to blog (yes, I’m using “blog” as a verb now, evidently) about it on time.
I first attended in 1989, when there were just a few booths. A handful of supportive local authors like Dave Barry made appearances. Nowadays it’s a huge event, drawing writers from all over the U.S. and elsewhere.
Last week Brett Sokol for the Miami New Times argued that there must be Miami stories that aren’t about crime or exile. There are. See, e.g., Accent Miami, a print publication. And when I finally update my other website, you can read some new ones there.
