Magazine’s bankruptcy trustee seeks reimbursements from freelance writers

Lingua Franca paid its freelance writers before filing for bankruptcy in 2001. Now the bankruptcy trustee is seeking reimbursement of the final payments, which under federal law should have gone to the publication’s “secured creditors.” The trustee has served summons to many of the freelancers and is threatening to sue if the moneys are not repaid.
