Google has announced an agreement with the New York Public Library, Harvard, the University of Michigan, Oxford University and some of the nation’s leading research libraries “to begin converting their holdings into digital files that would be freely searchable over the Web.” Some estimates place the cost of the project around $10 million, and participating librarians say it will take at least a decade to complete.
