Fox News Sues Al Franken

The title of Al Franken’s new book Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right is a trademark infringement, according to Fox News. The AP reports:

Filed Monday in Manhattan, the trademark infringement lawsuit seeks a court order forcing Penguin to rename the book, “Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right.” It also asks for unspecified damages.

Fox News registered “Fair & Balanced” as a trademark in 1995, the suit says.

I had no idea that “Fair & Balanced” was the slogan for Fox News. Man, maybe I could trademark the phrase “Too Rich, Too Thin” as my own personal slogan. Unfortunately, that wouldn’t make it so. But then I could go around suing those who used the words to describe other people. Maybe I could get too rich that way. And then maybe I could pay someone else to eat for me. Or something.

This doesn’t make any sense, does it?

No. No, indeed it does not.
